Microsoft IT Academy has provided Washington State libraries and our patrons with access to FREE on-line computer training classes for everyone. For those new to using computers, basic courses on computer skills are available with no sign-in required through the Microsoft Digital Literacy program. More advanced trainings are only available to those holding a valid Jefferson County Library card and password. Learn more.

IT Academy course content ranges from basic software skills to advanced technical skills and those who complete courses can apply for Microsoft Certification testing for an additional fee. To begin to explore the IT Academy training options (beyond basic computer skills) you must first register using the “getting started” steps below.

Getting Started

Beginners with little to no prior computer experience can use the Digital Literacy Program. No Microsoft account is required.

Experienced computer users see Step 1 below.


Step 1:  Create a Microsoft account

If you do not have a Microsoft account you will need to create a username (email address) and password by visiting the Microsoft Account Sign Up Page.


Step 2:  Get your Microsoft IT Academy Authorization Code

A one-time access code is needed when you register for the Microsoft IT Academy. By following this link you are confirming you are a resident of the state of Washington, click here to get your one time access code.  You will then need to sign in to the Microsoft IT Academy page using your Microsoft account created in step one to complete the registration instructions. If you don’t have a Microsoft Account see step 1 for creating an account.


Step 3:  Choose a course and start learning
