Event Details
Join us every third Thursday* of the month for an informative presentation on disaster and emergency preparedness. Each session will focus on a different topic and outline steps to prepare for various emergencies, including winter storms, earthquakes, and wildfires. (*The June presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, June 17, to accommodate the Juneteenth holiday.)
In the event of a widespread disaster that strains local resources, who will you rely on? Deborah Stinson and Dick Illman will discuss Jefferson County's Neighbors Helping Neighbors and Volunteer Communication programs. They will also provide a straightforward roadmap to help you and your neighbors respond effectively and efficiently to disaster situations. Prepared neighborhoods can save lives, reduce injuries and trauma, minimize property damage, and establish communication channels when our usual systems fail. By contributing as individuals and collaborating as a team, we can strengthen our communities and enhance our quality of life.
Deborah Stinson is a co-founder of NPREP and continues to support the program in many ways. Deborah spent 32 years working in information systems complemented by twelve years serving in elected positions for local government.
Dick Illman is a 10-year Jefferson County resident who retired from a 40-year technical career with Motorola. He is also the President of the Jefferson County Amateur Radio Club, and the Jefferson County ARES Emergency Coordinator.
These presentations are a collaborative effort among organizations that support emergency preparedness and response in Jefferson County. Throughout the year, you will hear from Neighborhood Preparedness (NPREP), Volunteer Emergency Communications (VECOM), the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), the Department of Emergency Management (DEM), and more.
