The Friends of the Jefferson County Library is a non-profit organization that funds programs and purchases items that the library could not otherwise afford. The Friends hold fundraising events and book sales throughout the year. Visit the Friends website to learn more and join us.
Volunteer Opportunities
The library relies on its volunteers to provide support and assistance to enhance service to our patrons. Volunteers perform a variety of tasks. Some current volunteer jobs include shelf reading, mending books, and sorting and straightening the magazine collection. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out our online application. You can also download our printable application form.

Donating Items to the Library
The Friends of the Jefferson County Library accepts donations in a book drop located near the Bookmobile garage next to the storage container. Please do not put donated books in the regular book drops. We appreciate your donations! Revenue from the sale of donated materials is used to support our library.
We accept:
- Books
- CDs
- DVDs
- Audiobooks
- Magazines less than 6 months old
We do not accept:
- Textbooks
- Records
- Cassette Tapes
- Magazines older than 6 months (including National Geographic)
- Videotapes
- Reader’s Digest condensed books
- Broken or damaged items
- Items missing parts
- Non-book or media items (e.g., toys, calendars, cards)
- Personally recorded audio or video items
What happens to materials donated to the Jefferson County Library?
Library staff members evaluate all donations to see if the items can be added to the collection. Materials not added to the collection may be sold at Friends of the Library book sales. The library disposes of any unacceptable items.
Will I receive a receipt for my donations?
Donors are given a receipt upon request. However, we are unable to appraise donated materials.
