StoryWalks®

Enjoy a Book and a Walk with a StoryWalk®

Mother and child enjoying a storywalk.

StoryWalks® are a fun and educational resource for children and adults to enjoy literacy, physical activity, and the outdoors all at the same time. Laminated pages from a children’s picture book are displayed on special signs along an outdoor path in a park, garden, or another outdoor setting. As participants walk along the path, they will be directed to the next pages of the story.

The library has installed StoryWalks in three locations. Stories are updated every few months. Current stories are:

H.J. Carroll Park in Chimacum
Dreamers by Yuyi Morales and
Penguin and Pinecone by Salina Yoon

Village Store in Quilcene
Little Bun by Amanda Hsiung-Blodgett and Emily Blodgett
How Do Monster Trucks Work?  by Buffy Silverman

Brinnon Elementary School

StoryWalk’s innovative combination of learning, entertainment, and exercise is already a hit in 50 states and 12 countries including, Germany, Canada, England, Bermuda, Russia, Malaysia, Pakistan, and South Korea.

The StoryWalk® concept was created in 2007 by Anne Ferguson in Montpelier, Vermont, as she sought ways to promote physical activity, early literacy, and family time together in nature. It has developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
