Dr. Joan Chapdelaine was born and raised in North Providence, Rhode Island. She received her Ph.D. in Genetics from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York and attended the University of Pennsylvania as a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Cancer Fund Fellow. Following her post-doctoral fellowship, she worked briefly for Wyeth Labs before joining Calvert Laboratories in Pennsylvania where she became Director of Immunology. After working 31 years, Joan decided to retire in January 2019 and moved to Port Ludlow to be with her Significant Other, Bill.
Libraries have been a big part of Joan’s life. Her mother worked in their local library and Joan often volunteered to help with book sales and children’s programs. While living in Pennsylvania, Joan was on their local library board for 19 years, serving a year as the board president.
In addition to being an avid reader, Joan enjoys knitting, weaving, gardening, yoga, walking with the women in the neighborhood, and playing with Casey, her Bichon Frise. When Joan moved to Jefferson County, she immediately got a library card and became a JCL volunteer. Joan was appointed to the JCL board in August 2020.
